LATEST: Interest-penalty will be paid from today on payment of outstanding taxes of property tax and water-sewerage

CHANDIGARH : After the deadline of the One Time Settlement Policy issued by the Punjab Government, from August 1, people who do not pay the property tax and water-sewerage bills will be charged interest and penalty.

It is pertinent to mention here that in almost all the municipal corporations of Punjab, there are several hundred crores of rupees standing in the form of recovery of property tax and water-sewerage bills, in response to the issuance of notice to deposit the interest, penalty waived by the people. In view of this, a one-time settlement policy was issued by the Department of Local Bodies in November last year for property tax and water-sewerage outstanding bills in February this year in which waiver of interest penalty was given to the people paying the outstanding bills. But before the deadline of this policy expired, the lockdown was implemented after which the policy period was extended one by one till 31 July.

According to the policy, 10% rebate was given on property tax for 9 months with interest and penalty waiver while rebate on outstanding bills for water-sewerage continued for 6 months, despite which the people who did not pay the outstanding bills now get interest and The penalty will have to be borne.
