HOSHIARPUR, OCTOBER 4: With commencement of paddy procurement yesterday, more than 70 mandis setup in the district have registered a total 5237 MT paddy till Monday evening, of which 3022 MT was procured with 0.73 crore payment advice generation. The Paddi Soora Singh mandi of Garhshankar has recorded the maximum arrival of 775 metric tonne.
In order to ensure seamless procurement, Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait has also directed all the SDMs to visit mandis in their respective jurisdictions to take stock of ongoing purchase. The SDMs and Tehsildars also took a round of mandis falling in Hoshiarpur, Mahilpur, Garhshankar, Dasuya, Tanda and Mukerian areas where they also interacted with the farmers to know problems, if any, being faced by them for getting their crop procured.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with all SDMs, police officers and officers of procurement agencies and directed that there should be no glitch in procurement in any mandi. Farmers should not face any inconvenience with ensuring hassle-free, smooth and seamless procurement vis-à-vis timely payment, lifting as per the instructions of State Government. As 4.48 LMT paddy is expected in the district, Apneet Riyait asked the SDMs to make regular visits to mandis for taking stock of ongoing procurement operations. All the requisite arrangements and preparedness should be well in place to tackle any sort of exigency especially the unfair weather, said Riyait adding that the Hoshiarpur police had laid 17 interstate nakas where police personnel were deployed 24X7 in shifts to check inflow of unauthorised paddy/rice from other states.
Meanwhile, SDM Dasuya Randeep Singh Heer along with other officers took a round of mandis to get ground report of procurement. Similarly, the mandis of Mukerian, Garhshankar were also checked while checking was also conducted in mandis of Mahilpur area whereas naib-tehsildar Gurpreet Singh went to Fuglana, Rajpur Bhaiyaan and other mandis.

FLYING SQUADS CONSTITUTED: On the directions of State Government, the District Administration has also constituted market committee level flying squads. Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait informed that these squads would submit daily reports so that necessary action could be initiated. Pertinently, in order to keep a check on recycling of paddy/bogus billing, inflow of unauthorised paddy/rice from other states, the State Government had ordered to constitute such flying squads, which would conduct checking.
