Lohian Khas (Jalandhar), July 21: Punjab Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian on Friday evening visited flood affected places here saying that Punjab Government was ensuring all possible assistance to families facing tough time.



Agriculture Minister Khuddian accompanied by Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal went to both sides of the breach at dhussi bandh near Gatta Mundi Kasu to take stock of ongoing work for plugging the breach. He also stated that the process to get the assessment of loss of crops, livestock and houses was going on accelerated pace and once this was completed the affected people would be compensated accordingly. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Minister said Punjab Government was providing free paddy sapling of varieties PR 126 and 1509 to farmers across the state. He said that 3600 quintals of saplings had already been sown to provide to farmers. The distribution process will be starting from PAU, Ludhiana and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in different districts, said Khuddian adding that the helpline number 77106-65725 had already been released to facilitate farmers in this regard.

The Minister said that Punjab Government had released Rs. three lakh for the treatment and medicines to affected livestock. The teams of Animal Husbandry Department are visiting villages to provide requisite assistance to farmers for their livestock as well as to give free medicines besides examining their mulch-cattle, he added.

Member Rajya Sabha Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal apprised the Minister about the present situation in villages. He said the work to plug the breach was in full pace and shortly the breach would be covered. The Minister said that Punjab Government was working shoulder to shoulder with people in this hour of crisis and all possible help and assistance should be ensured.
